How do I get stamina for running race?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 20 years old. I have a sports day at my college coming up. How do I get stamina for a running race?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

To increase your stamina, you should include the following in your diet:

  1. Have a pomegranate every day, as they are high in polyphenols which cut down muscle soreness and inflammation.
  2. Have two tablespoons of peanut butter before workouts. It releases extra dopamine to improve your mental focus.
  3. Take some pickle with your meals, as the sodium and potassium in it tops up the electrolytes lost in the sweating during workouts.
  4. Take bananas and lots of milk to keep your bones fit and strong.
  5. Take iron tablets as it will help your muscles to get more oxygen.
  6. Include beetroot in your salads as it triggers the release of nitric oxide to regulate blood flow.

Wish you all the best.
