Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 42-year-old man struggling with hypothalamic obesity. I am experiencing constant hunger and night eating. Are there any strategies to help control these urges? Also, my blood sugar levels have been fluctuating wildly. How can I stabilize them? Lastly, I am considering bariatric surgery. Given my condition, would this be a viable option for me? Please suggest.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I am here to answer all your queries.
These symptoms are common in hypothalamic obesity (a kind of obesity that occurs due to damage in the hypothalamus) due to the brain’s altered regulation of hunger and satiety signals. I suggest you do the following:
Focus on eating low-glycemic index foods, which cause a slower rise in blood sugar levels, and consider doing regular, gentle physical activity to improve insulin sensitivity. A physical examination by an endocrinologist is recommended. Surgery may help reduce weight, but since hypothalamic obesity is driven by brain signaling, it does not always address the underlying metabolic dysfunction. I hope this helps.
Feel free to follow up with any questions.
Thank you.
