Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am experiencing heartburn, hard to breathe. When I vomit it tastes like sour, and I vomit every after meal or when I drink water. I also frequent to have hiccup and burp. I have tried over the counter medicine (antacid) like Gaviscon (tablet and liquid), Semico and I think it is not effective.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

What kind of foods causes your heartburn? Do you overeat and then vomit? If you are vomiting after every meal, then you should have become very weak by now.

For your acidity problem, eat small frequent meals. Have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner with two small intermittent snacks. Avoid all kinds of spicy foods. Initially, go for a very bland diet. Once your symptoms subside, you can eat normal foods. Avoid all kinds of junk foods, processed foods, bakery products, rich sweets, fatty foods, sodas, alcohol, and tobacco.

Limit the intake of coffee or tea to just 2 cups a day. Avoid citrus fruits. All the other fruits and vegetables can be eaten in limited quantity. No fasting and feasting. No binge eating. Follow the above advice for a week. If you are still not fine, please visit a gastroenterologist.

For vomiting, if you belong to the overweight, obese category, eating, and vomiting the food is not going to solve your problem. Weight loss can happen only with a systematic diet plan and exercises. Normal healthy and nutritious foods are needed for your body. If vomiting continues, please do visit the doctor immediately.
