Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 49 year old female. My resting heart rate is 69 bpm. What should be my target heart rate during physical activity?
Hi,
Welcome to our portal.
The resting heart rate can vary among the population, and it is usually 72 +/- 6.
With exercise, it may go to 180 or more depending on the nature of the training, exercise tolerance, fitness, the age of the patient, etc.
The fitter you are, lower your resting heart rate. Also, the ability of the heart to tolerate stress will be better.
We aim to keep the heart rate during exercise within 80 percent of your maximal heart rate, which is calculated by the formula (220 minus age ). In your case, 80% of 170 is 36.
For further information consult a fitness expert.
