Can diet enhance hair strength and manage hair loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old woman. I do not have any health issues. However, I have been experiencing hair loss for the past few months, and it is not improving despite trying various hair care remedies and products. The problem is worsening, and I am worried I might lose all my hair. Could it be a nutrient deficiency or something else? Please, can you help me figure out what might be causing this hair loss and suggest steps that I can take to promote healthy hair growth? Also, what should I include in my diet to improve my hair strength and decrease hair fall?

Kindly help.

Hello,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern.

The reason for hair fall can be many, yes, but a major one is nutrition deficiency, especially in certain vitamins and proteins. Majorly, vitamin B7 or biotin deficiency. Though biotin deficiency is very rare in people (as biotin is easily found in foods like bananas, carrots, egg yolks, legumes, nuts, and more), it can occur due to heredity or in people who consume excessive amounts of alcohol, smoke excessively, have inflammatory bowel disease, or consume raw egg whites which contain avidin that blocks the absorption of biotin, which is another reason for hair fall.

I suggest you start taking vitamin E supplements along with B complex supplements. Add a mixture of nuts along with seeds once a day and ensure you take enough proteins in each meal.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
