Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 27-year-old male and have been suffering from constipation for the past two months. I consulted my physician, who advised me to make lifestyle changes. He suggested daily exercises and recommended including dietary fiber in my diet. What foods should I include in my diet? What are some affordable and effective sources of dietary fiber to help prevent constipation in the future? I do not have any other health issues and am not currently taking any medication.
Looking forward to your reply.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Constipation can result from various factors, including a low-fiber diet, dehydration, poor sleep patterns, stress, or underlying health conditions. While its severity determines the approach, basic guidelines to counter it include staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and consuming high-fiber foods such as oats, whole grains, fibrous fruits, and vegetables. Fiber supplements like psyllium or methylcellulose can also help by adding bulk to stools. Ensure adequate water intake alongside these remedies to enhance their effectiveness.
Other helpful remedies include drinking warm lemon water in the morning, ginger tea, or a tablespoon of ghee dissolved in warm milk before bedtime if you are not sensitive to dairy. Natural laxatives can be effective but should be used with caution, especially during pregnancy or when on certain medications. Including boiled vegetables like okra (bhindi) or papaya in meals for a few days, along with managing stress and maintaining a healthy sleep routine, can also aid in relieving constipation.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
