How to manage chondromalacia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been diagnosed with chondromalacia, and my doctor said it is due to vitamin D and calcium deficiency. I have been taking Ostolief Nutra tablets for the past two months, but the pain has not completely gone away.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

In my opinion, you should begin a rehabilitation program for your chondromalacia, as treatment depends on the severity of your condition. I recommend getting a proper knee assessment by a physiotherapist and starting a structured rehab exercise plan to reduce pain and improve mobility.

Since you experience pain when stopping, climbing stairs, or descending, proper mobilization exercises will help alleviate discomfort. Additionally, hip flexor stretching and lower body strengthening exercises will aid in faster recovery.

Immediate Recommendations:

  • Apply ice frequently.

  • Stretch your hip flexors and calves.

  • Perform gentle massage on your front thigh muscles for pain relief.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, and take care.

Regards.
