How to manage pain after a knee replacement surgery?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a total knee replacement three weeks ago today. It is healing nicely and I have never relied on anything to help me walk. My problem is the hip on the affected side. I compensated for the knee for many years and my hip hurts where the knee is not painful. I also have abnormal thyroid and cholesterol levels. Can I have a chiropractor do the adjustments needed to the bow or do I have to wait a little longer?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Let me begin by saying that I am sorry you are experiencing hip pain, but I am glad you are doing better since your knee replacement surgery.

To answer your question, absolutely a chiropractor can help. Many offices have tables that raise up and down so you never actually have to “climb” onto the table. If you were my patient, I would perform a chiropractic examination and would most likely recommend chiropractic adjustments if you were a candidate for care.

I suggest that you go back to a local chiropractor for treatment and proper care. Once they perform an examination, your chiropractor may want to order X-rays to confirm a diagnosis, but I would suspect that he or she will recommend a trial of care to see how you respond to care.

I hope this helps.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
