Common "Bursa" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Bursa

Bursa is a tiny, slippery fluid-filled sac facilitating gliding motion during joint movement. This acts as a thin cushion and reduces friction between the two surfaces. There are over 140 bursae in the body. Each bursa resembles a miniature water balloon and is filled with only a few drops of fluid. As a result, it wedges between the soft tissue and bone. When the fluid is inflamed due to injury, irritation, or any underlying condition, it is known as bursitis.
