How to manage discomfort after chiropractic adjustments?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 30-year-old female. I had lower back pain on the left side of my lower back. So, I consulted a chiropractor, and eight adjustments were made during the last two and a half weeks. The adjustments have helped with my lower back pain.

However, I have a sensation in my left back thigh, which is not paining, burning, or pulling, but discomfort is present. I cannot find a word to describe the exact sensation, but I can feel it when I tuck my chin to my chest and bend my upper body forward. My chiropractor said that the back thigh area is tight.

Can you explain this discomfort? Is it normal for tightness to happen since the length of my legs has been adjusted back to be even? Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If you think of the body in terms of biomechanics, once you are realigned, your body is in the correct position. Though it may be in the right position, some muscles tighten, become weak, and do not activate appropriately. As a result, when you are adjusted, it takes time for these muscles to stabilize and respond appropriately. I suggest you consult your chiropractor for exercises such as bridges, clams, etc.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
