What could cause chronic lower back pain on the left side?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 20 years old. I have had lower back pain on the left side for two to three years. I am doing exercise to get relief. But it did not help me in the long term. When I do squats, I feel the muscles working on the right leg. But I do not feel any effort when I do it on the left leg. I feel them in the calf. When I bend to stretch my foot, I feel more pain behind the knee on the left leg. On the right leg, I do not have the feeling of pain. But I have a feeling that my lower back pain affects the left leg. Please suggest some measures to treat it. I am trying to go to a chiropractor. Would he help me?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Physiotherapy treatment includes both interferential therapy (IFT) and ultrasound therapy (US). Traction can help you to provide relief. After the pain reduces, you need to do some exercises such as lower tummy strengthening, deep abdominal strengthening, bridge, pelvis tilt, lower back stretch, leg stretch, and piriformis stretch. If the pain does not subside, then I will suggest you to a chiropractor.

Manipulation technique will help you for sure and ask your chiropractor regarding the sessions taken for it. If it takes three to four sessions, you can have severe pain. Take rest as much as possible. You need to do above mentioned exercise in your daily life and maintain proper posture to keep you away from pain.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
