Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had lower back pain and UTI last year for which I was prescribed antibiotics, and also I had a blood infection for which again I was given heavy antibiotics. I have burning in the stomach and severe acidity. So I request you to make a diet chart for me. I am suffering from acidity, BP, thyroid, and sugar levels correspond to the prediabetic range. Please suggest things to take in GERD.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If your sugars are normal now without medications, you need to follow a diabetic diet chart as your weight is on the higher side. You are overweight by 44 lbs.
Diet chart:
Morning: sugarless tea. Totally avoid on coffee. Tea also should not be overboiled and have it with one or two biscuits.
For breakfast: (8:30 to 10 AM) go for homemade breakfast items (Indian food variety) like two chapattis, or four idlis or three dosas or one and a half cup of upma. Try to make these foods oil-free. And go for a total bland diet until the burning sensation stops.
Take boiled vegetables with less salt and spices. Take all kinds of fruits except citrus fruits. Avoid organ meats and take skinless chicken weekly twice. Egg white is allowed, and take whole egg once in 10 days.
Mid-morning snack: (11 to 12 PM) buttermilk with any fruit. Make buttermilk in large quantities and keep drinking it in between.
Lunch: (1 to 2 PM) rice or three chapattis with dal, vegetables, and curd. Initially, go for green gram dal and later, you can use arhar dal.
Evening (4 to 5 PM): sugarless tea with biscuits. Have some healthy snacks.
Do not eat raw salad now. Go for cooked ones.
If you are eating whole channa or pulses, have it in the morning hours. Always eat high protein foods in the morning hours and let your dinner be light.
Totally avoid junk foods, processed foods, bakery products, sodas, sweets, fried foods, etc.
Go for walking every day for 30 to 45 minutes.
Follow up after a week.

Thank you doctor,
I have attached my blood reports. Please go through it.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I have seen the report (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Since your HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) is slightly on the higher side, it is better to follow normal diabetic diet. Follow the food timings properly. Avoid direct sugars, junk foods, sweets, etc. All kinds of fruits and vegetables are allowed. Do not overeat any foods. Take it in limited quantities. Regarding vitamin D, morning sunlight is very good. You can do walking during that time until 10 am and evening from 4 to 6 pm. If your orthopedic doctor has suggested supplements, you can go for it. Milk around 200 ml per day is allowed with the protein powder. Every day eat a banana as an intermittent snack. Include sprouted grains in your diet. Initially, take it in cooked form. Later, when you can tolerate normal food, you can eat however you want to. Follow the bland diet properly for a few days. Definitely, your acidity problem will reduce.

Thank yo doctor,
Why is my ESR level high? What should I do?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
ESR level is high due to any infection. As you had already said that you were suffering from low back pain as well as you had blood infection, that can be the reason. Try doing yoga for low back pain. Go to some trusted yoga teacher you can guide you properly. As for infection, eat healthy nutritious foods. Increase your protein intake through food, whole grains, egg white, and chicken. Include vegetable soups in your diet weekly twice. Go for multigrain products. Look out for recipes which you can easily do. No need to buy readymade products. If you are suffering from gas problem, you can drink hing water, ie make hing in a size of pepper ball put it in warm water (50 ml) and drink it. It will immediately solve your problem. As your overall health start improving, your levels will come down. Do not worry about it.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor for the reply,
I have started eating bland food as per your advice, and it is also helping. The report for H. pylori shows H. pylori (IgG). Should there be any diet changes for dealing with this bacteria? Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
There is no change in the diet. Continue with the same diet for 15-20 days and gradually introduce normal food. That means you can start eating normal spices, but strictly avoid fried foods. If the pain returns, go back to a bland diet for two to three days, and then again reintroduce normal food. H. pylori bacteria can cause ulcers, so it is important to visit a gastroenterologist. They will determine whether to start you on medications or not. Even if you start taking medications, continue with the bland food, but make sure to have a two to three hours gap and eat some healthy snacks. Buttermilk is important, so keep drinking it as an intermittent snack. Also, daily include one to two teaspoons of ghee in your diet. Completely avoid outside foods for the time being. It may take some time for the whole problem to resolve, but rest assured, it will eventually become normal.
Regards.

Thank you doctor for the reply,
I am feeling better by following the food suggestions you gave me. However, after taking the calcium tablet to address my low calcium levels, I experienced a burning sensation in my stomach and body. Additionally, I felt pain beside my belly button, and sometimes I also experience heat in my stomach when I consume curd and buttermilk. Could you please suggest some diet changes and what might be causing these symptoms?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Calcium tablets can cause bloating and gas pain. That is why you may feel pain in the lower back and stomach. It is advisable to take these medicines after food. Have you consulted a doctor, or are you taking them as over-the-counter medicines? If you have consulted your orthopedic specialist, ask them about changing the medication. There are several brands available, and they can recommend a suitable one for you. Your diet should remain the same. Once you stop taking calcium supplements, gradually reintroduce normal foods into your diet. This is crucial as your body needs to readjust to regular foods as well. Remember, supplements should be taken only for a limited period. Change your brand with the doctor's advice, and your problem should be resolved
Regards.

Thank you doctor for the reply,
I also consulted you earlier, and I mentioned that I was suffering from severe acidity, gas, and a burning sensation in my stomach. I was even admitted to the hospital due to these issues, and I was unable to sleep for many days. As a result, the doctor started medication for anxiety. Now, whenever I try to eat something outside of my regular diet, I experience acidity, gas, and a heat sensation in my stomach. Please suggest a proper diet for me.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Please do get back to me with your daily food habits and the medications for anxiety. Here are some general guidelines:
Morning: Drink a light tea with 2 biscuits or crackers.
Breakfast (8-10 am): Choose light khichdi (1-1 1/2 cups), idli (3-4 pieces), dosa (3 pieces without oil), or poha (1 1/2 cups). If having idli or dosa, eat them with light sambar. Avoid chutneys.
Lunch (1-2 pm): If you can eat rice, it is better than rotis. You can have 2 cups of rice with dal, vegetable sabzi, curds, or buttermilk.
Evening Snack (4-5 pm): Have a light tea with biscuits or any light snack. Do not over-boil the tea decoction. Use only 1 teaspoon of tea for one cup. Avoid coffee; you can have two to three teas in a day.
Dinner (8 pm): Same as lunch.
Bedtime: Drink 100ml of cold milk or have an elachi banana. You can sun-dry ginger, cut it into small pieces, and add salt and lemon juice. It is good for your health.
Whenever you have eaten heavy foods, drink buttermilk with a pinch of hing powder. Hing powder is good for bloating and heaviness problems. Keep yourself calm and try to remove or forget negative thoughts from your mind. Stress can worsen acidity problems. Focus on positive things in life. Regular walking or Yogasanas can also help in controlling the problem. Avoid non-veg foods for the time being. Follow the food timings properly. Eat something healthy and light every two to three hours, which will help reduce acidity. Follow this diet for a month, and then get back to me with your food habits. I can adjust the diet accordingly.
Regards.
