Inflammation of the liver caused by a viral infection is called hepatitis. Sometimes, it can also be due to an autoimmune condition or medications, drugs, alcohol, and toxins. There are five types of viral hepatitis, which are hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, which is caused by Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E viruses respectively. The symptoms commonly seen are jaundice, tiredness, nausea, dark urine, gray stools, fever, loss of appetite, and severe itching. Hepatitis is diagnosed with the help of liver function test, ultrasound, and liver biopsy. Chronic or long-standing hepatitis might lead to fibrosis, liver scarring (cirrhosis), liver cancer, or liver failure.
