It is an autoimmune condition where hair is lost in patches either from scalp, eyebrows or eyelashes. It is also known as spot baldness and more commonly seen in type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. The symptoms include bald spots due to hair loss that is painful or may tingle. You may notice clumps of hair on the pillow or in the shower. Clinical examination and biopsy can be used to diagnose this condition. There is no cure for the condition but can be managed by using topical or oral medications, steroid injections, herbal supplements, etc.
