Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 21-year-old male. I constantly feel that I stare at people or certain objects unwillingly in my view and cannot ignore them. I cannot stop staring, even if I am looking at a neighboring object. This has been happening for the last one year. Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Based on your description, you could be suffering from a social anxiety disorder. It means difficulty in keeping a focused vision that happens in social circumstances and is a key symptom of social anxiety disorder. It is treated with SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and Benzodiazepines. I hope you find this information helpful.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for your answer. I have consulted a doctor before, and he suggested a few medications. I am attaching the names of those medicines. No improvement has been seen with those medicines. My main concern is the difficulty in keeping my vision focused. Even if I want to look at a particular position, say the whiteboard of my classroom, I unwillingly see people in my vision, even if they are sitting away from the board. It is as if I am unwillingly staring at them, and I see both of them, the board and the person, at the same time. I can avoid this to some extent by wearing broad-frame spectacles so that I can focus on the center of my vision rather than seeing objects or people sitting beside me. I have had his problem for one year. I would be very grateful if you could help me focus again, as I did a few years back. Kindly open the attached files in serial order and give your suggestions.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
After listening to your description of symptoms and going through your prescription papers (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), I feel the following -
1. The diagnosis of psychosis does not explain your disorder.
2. You were given three antipsychotics and two antidepressants in total.
My line of management will include -
1. Tablet Clonazepam (Rivotril) 0.5mg, half tablet in the morning and half at night.
2. Capsule Vitamin E (Evion) 400mg, one tablet at night.
3. Capsule Ginkoba M (multivitamin), one tablet after lunch.
Also, I would like to know whether you took any psychotropic medicines before your symptoms began. Do you ever feel anxious or uncomfortable in public? Is there a family history of psychiatric disorders? Reply to me with the answers and report back after 10 days.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
