Why do I have sciatic pain and immobility during pregnancy even after being treated by chiropractors?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 26 weeks pregnant with symptoms of sciatic pain and immobility. I have been treated by chiropractors twice. One chiropractor performed the Webster technique and did a physical assessment regarding my health; which has helped with sciatic pain but no manipulation. My second chiropractor performs manipulation and no Webster technique and did not do much assessment. I am not sure whether I will be getting benefited from both because my pain was unrelieved.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
If the symptoms are due to sciatica, then you may need facet and lower back manipulation, which may not be possible due to pregnancy. Alternatively, if your pain was due to sacral issues then the Webster technique will be helpful.
I suggest you follow a few instructions mentioned below.
- Proper assessment is required to choose safe techniques to relieve your pain.
- Certain spinal manipulation was contraindicated during pregnancy due to positioning. So proper and thorough physical assessment is needed for the best treatment.
- As of now, I suggest you keep icing your lower back to reduce the pain.
- Keep a pillow below your knees to reduce pressure in the lower back area.
I hope this has helped you.
Thanks and regards.
