How to manage rheumatoid arthritis symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was diagnosed with RA last year, and I have been taking Methotrexate. Recently, I have been having trouble with fatigue. I am completely drained by mid-afternoon, even when my joint pain is not that bad. I am also getting these weird bumps under the skin on my elbows.

My job involves a lot of typing, and I am wondering if I should tell my boss about my condition. I am scared of losing my job, but I am struggling to keep up.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with these challenges. Fatigue is a common issue with rheumatoid arthritis, and it can be exacerbated by medications like Methotrexate. The bumps under your skin might be related to your condition or the treatment, so it is a good idea to discuss these symptoms with your doctor consulting in person to check the present condition and its severity.

As for talking to your boss, it can be beneficial to have an open conversation, especially if your fatigue is impacting your work. You do not have to disclose all the details, but sharing that you are managing a health condition might help them understand your situation better.

You could also discuss possible accommodations, like flexible hours or breaks, to help you manage your workload. Remember, your health comes first, and finding a balance is important.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
