Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I noticed some changes in my breasts, and my nipples are getting inverted.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to iclinq.com.

From the visual angles you shared (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), the nipples look completely normal and healthy. However, to be sure, it is always best to examine them physically.

Although I would like to know the following:

  1. Is there any discharge from the nipples?
  2. Do you feel any lump around the area?
  3. Do you feel that the nipple has become inverted?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Yes, my nipples are inverted sometimes, and they feel lumpy.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinq.com.

Any suspicion of cancer should not be entertained if nipples only feel inverted "sometimes." The images (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) show normal nipples. Some change in the shape of the nipples is normal with changing temperatures, hydration status, sexual activity, and menstrual cycle. Even a feeling of heaviness and lumpiness, if it disappears, can take place with hormonal changes. So, I would reassure you that it is nothing to worry. However, suppose you have a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer. If inversion becomes constant or apparent, and the lump feeling is discrete, you should get your primary physician to look at your breasts and maybe get an ultrasound study to alleviate these concerns. Make it a routine to notice the usual changes in breasts and nipples, self-examine every once in a while, and follow a healthy and active lifestyle with a balanced diet.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.
