Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I participate in resistance training activities and one exercise, in particular, has been giving me problems. The exercise in question is the dumbbell bench press. It causes a sharp pain in the triceps and sometimes across the brachioradialis. There is no pain in any other exercises that extend the elbow with resistance. I am also not experiencing golfers elbow or tennis elbow symptoms. I know that one of the best things I can do is rest the muscle. My question is, can I just avoid the specific exercise that is causing me pain and choose ones that do not? Or does rest mean completely forgoing every elbow extension exercise? I am just taking psychoactive medication.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It might look like your tricep muscle imbalance or the tricep muscle fibers are not adapting to the resistance in this position. I recommend you to do not stop exercise but doing the same exercise with little to no resistance and then gradually start increasing the resistance. That will help these muscles to gain strength.
