Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 53-year-old male. Migraine headaches occur at any time during the day. It starts from the back side of my neck someday or from around my eyes. I took Naxpro 500 mg daily once for 3 days along with Revelol XL 50, Ranaloz OD and Ramitorva prescribed by the cardiologist. Presently, I am taking Revelol 50 mg, Ramitorva, and Ranal OZ daily once. Can I take a Naxidom 500 mg tablet when required for migraine pain?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query details and understand your concern.

Firstly, do not stop your cardiac medicines unless your cardiologist asks you to. Headaches are a common side effect of that medication. So do not worry. Ramitorva (Atorvastatin) is an anti-cholesterol medication that might have been prescribed by your cardiologist seeing the risk. In the current set of medications mentioned by you, Naxidom 500 (Naproxen and Domperidone) is the medication you are taking for migraine. You do not need to take the medicine continuously daily. Please take it only on a required basis. Try to take it for two to three days and stop. Here is an additional medicine (Tablet Stemetil MD5 (Prochlorperazine maleate)) which you can take twice a day, preferably at night for five days when you have repeated attacks at short intervals and severe attacks. However, I would request you to look out for the triggers and try to avoid them if possible. Do some neck and shoulder exercises, take less oily and spicy food, and most importantly, have a good sleep.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I forgot to tell you about two medications I am taking, Nervomin B capsule twice daily and Amipox H once daily at bedtime. Can I take Stemetil MD5 along with this medication?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern..

Amipox H (Amitriptyline and Chlordiazepoxide) is most probably prescribed as a prevention for migraine attacks. However the same is at times useful as antidepressants and for nerve tension. Depending on the patient's severity, I generally continue to taper off this medication with time and tell them to concentrate on lifestyle changes. Nervomin B capsule (multivitamins) is a vitamin supplement and can be taken just once a day. Please recheck your vitamin B and D levels. Stemetil MD will not interfere with either one. Take this medication only when you have severe pain at the nape, headache along with nausea and mild giddiness. Have plenty of water and may experience little drowsiness while taking both. Use it only for a couple of days. Do not make migraines to depend on medicines. Get well soon.

I hope this answers your query.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you suggest any migraine and sleeping medicine instead of Amipox H?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

For acute migraine, take tablet Vasograin (Ergotamine Tartrate) twice a day for two days. Please do not stop Amipox H abruptly. However, you can start taking the half dose for at least ten days and the rest will be mentioned on the follow-up as per your symptoms. Please consider a phone consultation or a clinic visit for a thorough understanding of your routine and other medical conditions. Please note the frequency of migraine attacks once you taper the dose. Please note that not every headache is a migraine. I would like to know your diet, stress, and sleep patterns to help you identify your triggers. It would help you in the long term to avoid frequent attacks.

I hope this answers your query.

Patient's Query

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Is Vasograin a pain killer?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

It has a combination of medicines which reduces cerebral vasodilation and decreases pain transmission in the trigeminal system, dopamine D2 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the brain causing direct relief from migraine pain by acting on central pathways involved in headache and also decrease other classical symptoms of migraine. So it is not a typical pain killer (NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)) generally taken for any pain or inflammation. This is a combination that is specifically given for migraine patients and is very helpful in most of the patients in the acute phase of migraine.

I hope this answers your query.

Let me assist you further.

Thank you.
