Can a misaligned spine result in chronic headaches?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have dealt with headaches for some years now. I am a 30-year-old male with a weight of 260 lbs. I crack my neck and back quite often, which causes relief for a short time.

I recently noticed a spot in my lower back area that feels like it needs to be popped but cannot. I have been experiencing headaches for about two years, and I think this may be why my sleep has been suffering as well. Is there any correlation between my lower (possibly misaligned spine) and my headaches?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is very less likely that a misaligned lower spine will give you a headache. It usually offers problems in gait and your sensation below the hip. The reason for headaches must be different. Can you explain the character of your headache? Is it band-like or continuous dull ache or fluctuating? Is there any tearing of the eyes? Does it hurt at the back of the eyes?

The headaches are commonly cluster headaches that most often happen due to continuous screen usage, disturbed sleep patterns, and stressful life. I would recommend you check your blood pressure and do breathing exercises after getting up every morning and before sleeping for fifteen minutes. If you need medication to help you with it, I will request a follow-up with more explanation about the nature of the headache.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
