How to reduce gluteal pain after an injection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a severe back sprain eight days back and when I consulted the doctor, he advised me to take an injection Diclofenac IM stat. After seven days, I started having pain on touching the site and felt the hard mass. But there is no redness or fever. But I felt severe pain while touching my left gluteal area where it was given. What I should do to heal it?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. In my opinion, you had spasms in the back. Sometimes a simple strain may also be leading to such issues. Muscle stiffness and hardness are due to this spasm and are short-lived. I suggest you do a lot of icing frequently like once every 2 hours or 15 minutes. Do mild kneading around the area of stiffness and mild kneading on the spasm area. Mild gentle stretching of the low back will help you feel better. Keep a pillow below your knee while sleeping. You can stretch your gluteus and hamstring. These easy stretches can be done gently.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
