Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 33-year-old male. I have been suffering from erectile dysfunction for a month. Are there physical health conditions or lifestyle factors that could contribute to erectile dysfunction? What are the common causes or risk factors associated with it? What role do psychological factors, such as stress or anxiety, play in this condition? What are the available treatment options for erectile dysfunction, and how effective are they? Are there medications, therapies, or lifestyle changes that can be beneficial? Can you provide advice on maintaining a healthy sexual relationship with a partner during this process?

Kindly provide your insight.

Answered by Dr. Muntaqa Butt

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Firstly, I would like to inform you that erectile dysfunction typically manifests between the ages of 40 and 50 years. In younger males, factors contributing to erectile dysfunction often include physical inactivity, hyperlipidemia, alcohol and tobacco use, excessive stress, anxiety, the use of antidepressants or other medications, diabetes, hypertension, and venous leak. Two primary types of erectile dysfunction exist. Psychogenic erectile dysfunction is associated with a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy dietary habits, stress, anxiety, mental disturbances, among other factors. The second type is organic erectile dysfunction, wherein an underlying disease plays a role. Treatment approaches encompass behavioral modifications, lifestyle changes, and certain medications. Surgical options are also available and can be considered if other interventions prove ineffective.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
