How to control yelling back at someone?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I hate my mom because she always calls me a demon, and I do not know what to do. For everything I do, I do not feel like I should do it. I do not know how to express it. When she yells at me, I yell back at her. Sometimes, I suddenly start crying without any reason. What should I do? Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Thank you for writing to us. Happy to help. I read everything you have shared, and let me tell you at the outset that you are not alone. I understand that you feel like crying or yelling at your mom now, and then you feel she does not see you in a positive light. I wonder what has been helping you in getting yourself together. Would you like to share how you come out of these thoughts and feelings? What do you do? Are you studying or working or something else?

What to do in such a situation is to first handle your emotions so you can stop reacting and start responding to the situation. It is not easy to do; it takes time. But this habit will help you calm yourself sooner and handle the situations at hand in a better manner. I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
