Can tennis elbow cause a sound when I keep my elbow in hammer position?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had tennis elbow for four years. It does not pain usually, but a sound comes from my elbow when I move my hand in a hammer position. I have tried using an elbow brace, but it has not helped.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I feel that the complaint is due to an imbalance in musculature leading to bone-on-bone rubbing rather than a tennis elbow. I suggest the below tips to ease the pain:

  • Stretch the elbow muscles (biceps and triceps) properly.
  • Frequently apply ice to the elbow.
  • Do forearm strengthening exercises.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
