Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I was talking with my friend today, and after our conversation, when we met again, she asked if I was feeling alright. Apparently, mid-conversation, I started going in and out of talking gibberish, then continuing the conversation as if nothing had happened. I have absolutely no memory of this happening. What could it be a result of?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand that you feel concerned about forgetting the content of your conversation. Forgetting the words of your previous conversation or the inability to recall a few events may occur due to the normal information processing of your brain. It might also be due to some psychological conditions in which a person experiences dissociative symptoms, such as depersonalization and derealization. Depersonalization is when you persistently have the feeling that you are observing yourself from outside your body. Derealization is when you have a sense that the things around you are not real. These feelings can be very disturbing and could give the feeling of living in a dream. Many people have these as a passing sensation. But when these feelings keep occurring often or never go away, it is considered a disorder. It is more common in people who have had traumatic life experiences. Investigate the specific content and wordings that you cannot recall. If you feel this was an unusual experience, and people other than the friend start to notify you about this issue, I suggest you visit a psychologist immediately. He or she will assess you to know if you require clinical attention. Research has shown that there is a better improvement if treatment is started early.
Thank you.
