Hello doctor,
Why is my fasting glucose always high? My range is 110 to 115. Doctors tell that I should maintain below 95 as I m currently pregnant. My afternoon and dinner values are within the range. Please help.

Traditionally soluble insulin is the agent of choice for uncontrolled DM (diabetes mellitus) or GDM (gestational diabetes mellitus) in pregnancy. Rapid acting analog insulin aspart is a safer choice along with diet and tolerable exercise. Diet and exercise are tried first. Nowadays, many of the guidelines allow Metformin in gestational diabetes. As you are obese with controlled postprandial glycaemic profile, Metformin could be given 500 mg at night after a meal along with diet and tolerable exercise.
