My father has a blood clot in brain and is recovering slowly. What is your opinion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For two days, my father has been in the ICU. He has a blood clot in the brain due to an accident. Sometimes, his half side of the body is not working, and he is also having stroke problems. The doctors are saying that he is recovering, but very slowly. Please give your opinion.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • If the patient is not deteriorating, recovery should be allowed naturally.

  • If the patient’s condition is deteriorating or the blood clot is increasing, surgery may be required.

  • Physiotherapy is the best and only effective recovery option.

  • Encourage your father to move his weak limbs, even if he cannot move them fully.

  • Passive movement of joints should be done frequently.

  • Repeated exercises help the healthy part of the brain take over the damaged area’s function.

  • Recovery may take 6 to 12 months, depending on effort and consistent physiotherapy.

  • Maintain a low-salt diet.

  • Monitor blood pressure regularly.

For further information, consult an internal medicine physician online.

Thank you.
