What could be the reason for white thread worms in my stools?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I see white threadworms in my stools, which move like snakes. One night my anus was itching, so I took a piece of cloth and cleaned the walls of my anus. It felt like a sack inside, so I tried to pull it but could not. When I saw the cloth, I noticed a jelly-like substance with a few worms. There is also some thick thread inside the wall of my anus. When it first occurred, I thought it was due to extended seating, but it did not disappear for about two weeks. Could there be a worm inside? What should I do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. From the clinical description, it is clear that you are suffering from worm infestation, which is common in developing countries. You might be aware that the presence of worms inside your body compromises nutrition leading to the development of severe anemia, among others. If you have a medical facility nearby, please ask for a stool examination to know which worm is in your body. Meanwhile, I recommend you buy a tablet of Albendazole 400 mg and take it with lukewarm water. You need to take only one tablet and another tablet after one week. It can cause many complications in your body. Therefore, please get a complete blood count from a nearby laboratory to know your current hematological parameters.

Thank you.
