Which superfoods can help slow down the aging process?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 47-year-old woman who had hyperthyroidism a few years ago, which has since resolved. Now, I am concerned about my physical appearance. I seem to look older than my age, and my skin looks dull and loose. Are these signs of aging? If so, how can I control them? Are there any nutrition tips to slow down or prevent aging? What diet should I follow? Which superfoods or essential nutrients should I include in my regular diet?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest you take a few dietary supplements such as:

  1. Calcium: Calcium, in conjunction with vitamin D, helps maintain strong bones throughout life. Bone loss can increase the risk of fractures in older women and men. As an example, the need for calcium to maintain strong bones and teeth increases with age. Therefore, consuming extra servings of low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese is important. Other good sources of calcium include canned salmon, sardines, leafy greens like spinach, kale, and bok choy, sesame seeds (and tahini), and almonds.
  2. Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for bone health and calcium absorption.
  3. Vitamin B6: This vitamin is essential for the formation of red blood cells.
  4. Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 supports the health of red blood cells and nerves.
  5. Folate: It is important in red blood cell formation and for healthy cell growth and function.
  6. Vitamin K: Vitamin K is found in many foods, including green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale, as well as in some fruits such as blueberries and figs.
  7. Magnesium: Optimal magnesium levels help prevent excessive inflammation, maintaining a balanced immune response.
  8. Potassium: Potassium allows the nerves to respond to stimulation and muscles to contract (tighten), including those in the heart.
  9. Sodium: It helps regulate the amount and distribution of water in the body.

I hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
