When a muscle is overstretched or torn, it is called muscle strain or pulled muscle. The symptoms include sudden pain, soreness, bruising, limited movement, muscle stiffness and weakness. The causes are poor flexibility, overexertion, lifting heavy objects, slip and fall, run, jump, and failure to warm up before physical activity.
