"Leprosy is also known as Hansen's disease. It is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium leprae. It commonly affects eyes, skin, nose, and nerves. It spreads by having long-term contact with an infected person. The symptoms are the development of red skin patches with decreased sensation, muscle weakness, and nerve damage. It is managed by taking multidrug therapy and resolves by six to twelve months. Early treatment helps to avoid disability.
