Anticoagulants are substances that reduce or prevents coagulation of blood by prolonging the clotting time. It suppresses the functions of various clotting factors that are present in the blood. These drugs prevent the formation of blood clots in the arteries or veins. Anticoagulant therapy is commonly used in the treatment of VTE (venous thromboembolism). For treating pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, low molecular weight Heparin is used.
