Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS is a degenerative motor neuron disease, meaning, it affects the nerve cells. The brain loses control over the voluntary muscles, causing inability to move around, speak, eat and eventually even breathe. Early symptoms include muscle twitching, weakness of legs and arms, and speech difficulties. Currently, there is no cure for this disease.
