Abstract
Diabetes affects most of the population. It is a must to make people aware that they stay fit and healthy with diabetes. Here, I have explained the friendly foods and also the foods to be avoided in diabetics, to stay healthy.
Diabetes is a metabolic disease that results in too much sugar level in blood or high blood glucose level. Diabetes would be controlled by some precautions in the diet along with the medication.
Diabetic Diet:
The most important thing in diabetes regarding diet is that a diabetic person should take three small frequent meals with three snacks. It should never be skipped. Also, exercise or walking for at least half an hour daily is mandatory.
A diabetic person can take all types of vegetable soups with no thickening agents like sauce or butter. Vegetables should be a blend of salads and all green and leafy vegetables that grow in a particular season.
Fruits such as lemon, orange, sweet lemon, apple, papaya, grapes, pomegranate, guava, pineapple, watermelon, muskmelon and strawberry can be taken and it should be consumed as a whole. Fruits should be four to five portions daily. They are rich in photochemical and antioxidants.
In diabetes, milk and milk products (skimmed milk) like cottage cheese, curd, etc., are recommended. Cereals with bran should be eaten such as wheat, rice, maize, oats, etc. Intake of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat sources such as olive, walnut, groundnut and avocado are helpful.
Lukewarm water should be taken instead of cold water as that will help with weight loss.
