Our Blood Volume calculator enables one to find the total volume of blood in an individual's body. A condition wherein there is a severe low blood volume is medically known as hypovolemia. Likewise, a condition where there is high blood volume, it is called hypervolemia. Both can prove fatal and can lead to adverse health conditions. So, it becomes all the more important to calculate the level of blood volume a body has. The blood volume calculation is needed by doctors in diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions including but not limited to kidney failure, hypertension, and congestive heart failure.

This estimate is arrived on the basis of the individual's gender, height, and weight. The blood volume in males is usually higher than that in females. An average adult male has around 5.5 liters of blood, while an average female has only around 3.5 liters of blood.

How is Blood Volume Calculated?

The Nadler’s equation is utilized to calculate the total blood volume on the basis of your gender, height, and weight. To perform the calculation, you will need your height in inches and your weight in pounds.

The formula to calculate blood volume in males is:
(0.3669 x Height in meters x Height in meters x Height in meters) + (0.03219 x Weight in kilograms) + 0.6041

First, calculate your height function by cubing your height in meters and multiplying it by 0.3669. Calculate the weight function by multiplying your weight in kilograms by 0.03219. Add the height function and the weight function to 0.6041. The result will be the total blood volume in males.

The formula to calculate blood volume in females is:
(0.3561 x Height in meters x Height in meters x Height in meters) + (0.03308 x Weight in kilograms) + 0.1833

First, calculate your height function by cubing your height in meters and multiplying it by 0.3561. Calculate the weight function by multiplying your weight in kilograms by 0.03308. Add the height function and the weight function to 0.1833. The result will be the total blood volume in females.
