How is the Adjusted Body Weight (ABW) calculated?

The Adjusted Body Weight Calculator uses the Devine formula to calculate the Ideal Body Weight (IBW). This is applicable only to persons whose height is 60 inches (152 cm) or taller.

To calculate the ABW, the IBW has to be calculated first. The Ideal Body Weight (IBW) can be calculated using the given formulas:

Ideal Body Weight (Male): 50 kg + 2.3 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Ideal Body Weight (Female): 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per every inch over 5 feet

The formula to calculate the Adjusted Body Weight is:

Adjusted Body Weight: IBW + (0.4 ∗ (weight in kg - IBW))

The IBW is now subtracted from the weight in kilograms and the answer is multiplied with 0.4. Now, this result is added up to the IBW to obtain the Adjusted Body Weight (ABW).
