Failed Back Surgery Syndrome

In people with previous spine surgeries presence of persistent back pain is referred to as failed back surgery syndrome or post-laminectomy syndrome. Although the surgery was technically successful, factors like pseudoarthrosis and continued degeneration of the spine above or below the level of the operated spine lead to recurrent stabbing or shooting or dull aching pain of the back and legs.
