Hi doctor,

I found out that I am 4 to 5 weeks pregnant. I am looking for some information about the safety of Adderall during pregnancy. Currently, I am taking Adderall XR 15 mg, Celexa 20 mg, and Lamictal 100 15 mg per day. I have a history associated with depression, anxiety and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Unfortunately, I am one of those who risk losing my job and going into a bad depression if I try to get off. There is really not much data of risks on therapeutic levels, only abuse. I am seeing my doctor (OB) next week but would really like a pharmacologist opinion. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Tablet Adderall (combination of Dextroamphetamine and Amphetamine) affects a grown persons heart rate but you are already taking in a very low dose of 15 mg per day and usually it is prescribed in a dosage of 20-28 mg per day.

Tablet Celexa (Citalopram) falls under "category C" which means these drugs are harmful to animal fetus but there are insufficient studies to prove there harmful effects on the human fetus.

I would suggest you continue with your tablet Adderall 15mg per day, tablet Celexa 20 mg a day and tablet Lamotrigine (Lamictal) 100 mg which falls under "category c" in normal preparation and in "category D " in extended-release preparations.

Just try half tablets of each drug for three times in two days in that way you will reduce 1/4 dosage of the drug.

Be relaxed and cool in choosing any of the above options because that will affect your fetus more than any of the drug. Congrats on conceiving. Be a confident mother.

Treatment plan:

Take half tablets of each drug twice a day on day one and half tablets of each drug once a day and then repeat until your next appointment.
