Hello doctor,

I was moving a couch last week and I hurt my back. I could not straighten up or bend down as it hurt very badly. As I felt the pain started to ease, I continued with my daily chores and picking up my 1-year-old baby (30-pound). But I am starting to feel the pain again in my lower back. Pain also goes around my hip and pelvic area just below the stomach. I had undergone a C-section 19 months ago and always had some pain in the injection site. My posture is poor, slouched and I also sit with my legs crossed. What could be the reason for this pain?

Thank you.

Hello.

Welcome and thank you for placing your confidence in icliniq.com for your healthcare needs.

I am here to help you.

I am sorry you are experiencing low back pain. Nearly 80% of the people will experience back pain at some point in their life.

In your query, you said you were moving a couch last week when the pain began. Since then, it has been hard to straighten up or bend. It also sounds like you are a busy mom that does not have time to be injured especially with a one-year-old running around. I have had patients come to my office describing similar conditions.

Now I do have several questions that would help me determine what you are probably experiencing. It may be possible that you are suffering from a simple sprain or a strain. This means that the muscles and ligaments may be involved and may have been injured when you were moving the couch. I find that these generally get better in two to three weeks.

Healing will also depend on whether or not you are using ice or a heating pad. In the short term, do not use heat even though it feels better in the short term, this can cause more inflammation. If you use ice, only use it for 10 to 15 minutes at a time and give at least an hour in between icing sessions.

The other possibility is that you may have a disk bulge or herniation. When you say the pain is in the low back and goes into your hip and pelvic area, is this a throbbing pain or a sharp shooting pain? Do you have any numbness or tingling sensation down the leg? If so, which side of the leg? These are all questions I would need to have answers to before giving you a proper diagnosis.

Since I am unable to do a chiropractic examination on you, I cannot say for sure what you are experiencing. That is why it is my professional opinion, that I recommend that you go see a local chiropractor for a proper examination. If they believe you are a candidate for chiropractic care, they will most likely recommend a trial of care to determine how you will respond to treatment.

Thank you.
