Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is there any ayurvedic medicine that will prevent tooth decay? Somebody told me that there is a effective medicine that stops tooth decay once placed on the tooth. I have dark spots on a tooth and a small cavity on another tooth.

Kindly give your suggestion.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Caries are due to the bacteria (Streptococcus mutans and lactobacilli). If the oral cavity has sugar or food particles left for the whole night, or if it is dry (less water intake), that will make these bacteria form caries in the tooth. Hence proper maintenance of oral hygiene (gargling after each food, brushing before bed, regular dental check-up) are the only ways to prevent caries. Herbal-based toothpaste helps maintain oral health, which also keeps the gums healthier. Once caries appeared, it is better to consult a dentist to remove caries, which regular brushing or herbals cannot remove. If the pain is more, clove oil or clove flower or other herbals having local anaesthetic actions (Sichuan buttons) can be used. But these are temporary measures only. Placing a fruit of Solanum xanthocarpum on the tooth is believed to destroy caries. Chirattai thailam (Cocos nucifera) is a siddha oil that is to be applied on the black spot to remove it. But, it should be done by a physician carefully to avoid local irritations.

My advice is either you consult a siddha doctor and ask for Chirattai thaialm. If this does not work, finally dentist is the best option. Anything you need to do before it spreads more and makes pain.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I agree with the cause of less water intake. Can I buy Chirattai thailam and apply by myself if I do not find a sidda doctor in my locality? Also, if you do not mind, can you please mention any supplements or medicine for dry eyes caused due to more screen time.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

I advise you to hydrate your mouth frequently. You can buy Chirattai thailam from a nearby Ayush medical shop or online. Applying it is at your own risk. I cannot recommend it for self-medication. For the dry eyes issue, I suggest you Ezhaneer kuzhambu (Punarnava, Bilva, Jivanti). Every day, one drop can be applied to each eye at bedtime and tightly close your eyes for five minutes. It causes tearing and a burning sensation for four minutes. During the daytime, wash your face with normal water frequently to reduce heat in the eyes.

Thank you.
