The forceful expulsion of stomach contents is called vomiting, and the content that is expelled is called vomit. Vomiting as such is not a disease but is a symptom of other underlying conditions. Some of the conditions causing vomiting are food poisoning, indigestion, motion sickness, chemotherapy, Crohn’s disease, headaches, and pregnancy. In childhood, frequent vomiting without any cause is called cyclic vomiting syndrome. Severe vomiting can cause dehydration, esophagitis, dry mouth, dark urine, headache, tooth decays, and a tear in the esophagus.
