Immune thrombocytopenia or idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a bleeding disorder that is caused by low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia), which is not related to any underlying condition. The symptoms include easy bruising (purpura), superficial bleeding into the skin (petechiae), gum bleeding, blood in urine and stools, and heavy menstrual bleeding. Usually in children, ITP develops after viral infections like mumps or measles, which gets better in some weeks. Oral corticosteroids, IV immune globulin, Rituximab, and Fostamatinib are used for its treatment.
