Anemia is when you do not have enough red blood cells or hemoglobin. The types of anemia are iron-deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and aplastic anemia. It can result from blood loss, infections, certain medicines, increased destruction of red blood cells, less production of red blood cells, some hereditary conditions, and lack of some minerals or vitamins. The symptoms commonly seen in anemia are tiredness, dizziness, swollen tongue, headache, breathlessness, enlarged spleen, poor growth, and irritability. Depending on the cause, anemia is treated with the help of vitamin and mineral supplements, iron tablets, blood transfusion, or stem cell transplantation.
