About "Dental CBCT"

Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces 3-dimensional images of the teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways, and bone. This is usually taken before surgical extraction of an impacted tooth, for diagnosing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, proper placement of dental implants, to diagnose tumors of the jaw, to determine the bone structure and teeth orientation, for reconstructive analysis, and for cephalometric (measurement of the head) analysis. The arm in the cone beam scanner rotates around the patient's head while taking images from different angles. These images are then used to form a single 3-dimensional image. It gives a more accurate image than a dental x-ray, so treatments can be planned more precisely.
