Botox is a neurotoxin, which is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It is made from botulinum toxin, which is used to treat a few muscular conditions and for the removal of fine lines and wrinkles. Even though it is incredibly toxic to the nervous system, Botox has a lot of applications if used in small quantities. It is used in conditions like urinary incontinence, migraines, hemifacial spasm, excess sweating, and eye squints. It takes about 24 to 72 hours for it to start working if it is injected directly into the neuromuscular tissue. Some of the common side effects are swelling, numbness, headache, dysphagia, bleeding, allergy, etc. It is not advisable to use Botox during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
