About "Tinnitus"
People with tinnitus hear ringing, hissing, roaring, humming, clicking, or whistling sounds in the ears. Some people get adjusted to the sound, but in some, it is debilitating. It can lead to insomnia, poor performance, anxiety, depression, irritability, and poor concentration. The two types of tinnitus are:
- Subjective tinnitus – It is the most common type, where the patient can only hear the sound. It results from outer, middle, or inner ear problem.
- Objective tinnitus – This is when the doctor can hear the sound, as it results from blood vessel problems.
Some of the common causes of tinnitus are Meniere’s disease, TMJ disorder, head injuries, acoustic neuroma, and inner ear muscle spasms. Treatment is done by treating the underlying condition.
